Gardening

Our friends Jonathan and Carrie are planting a garden in their back yard. Samuel was very interested in the dirt, and wanted to help use the tools. Here are some pictures of Samuel helping Jonathan.

Playdate with Tristan

Today we went over to the McHam's house for a playdate. Samuel loves his buddy Tristan, and all of Tristan's cool toys (don't all kids love other kids' toys better than their own?)

Samuel and Tristan had a fun time swinging, playing with the cozy coupe car, eating lots of cheese (Samuel's second favorite snack after popcorn these days) and going to the park down the street.

Was taking a nap part of this fun day? No, definitely not. Instead it was more fun to scream in the pack-n-play and then get up and play with more toys. Who wants to waste time sleeping when there is cheese to be eaten?

Popcorn

Samuel's newest favorite snack to eat is popcorn. He sees the popcorn popper in our pantry and points at it frantically. He loves everything about it - watching the popcorn pop, feeding some to the dogs, and of course eating as much as he can. Popcorn is one of Ernie's favorite snacks too - like father, like son.

Apparently only the small easter bunnies get hugs

Last weekend I took Samuel to an Easter Eggstravaganza at a local museum here - The Wildlife Experience. The event probably would have been really fun if he was a little older - kids could decorate cookies, make spring picture frames, go on an easter egg hunt, etc... And they could get their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny. Samuel was not too hot on getting his picture taken with this giant bunny. It seems he prefers to love the tiny chocolate variety.

Most of what was happening at this event was over his head, but he enjoyed running all around the museum, climbing up and down the stairs, and opening and closing the doors.

Doesn't he look like such a little boy here and not a baby anymore? He is getting so big. Today at his 18 month well baby check up we learned he weighs 26 lbs and is 31 inches. He's in the 60% for weight and 40% for height.

Easter

Ernie's mom sent Samuel an easter basket. Among other things, there was a white chocolate rabbit in there. We haven't given Samuel candy before, so I was really surprised when he kept pointing to the rabbit and making noises like he wanted it. I tried to distract him with the other things in the basket, but he was determined to have the rabbit. Finally, I took the rabbit out of the box and gave it to him to see what he would do. Instead of eating it, he gave it a hug. It was so cute. I don't think he had any idea that it was something to eat.

Then I said to him "where are the bunny's eyes?" and he poked at them. Poked at them so hard, in fact, that they fell right into the hollow core of the rabbit. Samuel looked totally shocked. He stuck his fingers in the holes to see if he could get the eyes. When he couldn't get them, he put his fingers in his mouth. Then he suddenly realized the bunny was something to eat, and that he liked how it tasted. Soon after that the bunny went into hiding in our kitchen.

On the Move

Most people reading this blog know that we are in the midst of a move from Colorado to Ft. Wayne, Indiana because of Ernie's new job. Ernie is already in Ft. Wayne working and will come back here April 17th. Then the movers come and pack things up and we leave town April 19th.

Here is the house we are in the process of buying in Ft. Wayne:

First Blog Post

Since Samuel was born 18 months ago, we have been posting pictures of him on his website. Now that he is more active and learning new things every day, I thought a blog would be a better place to let people know what our family has has been up to.

Last weekend I took Samuel to the Denver Zoo. Here he is hanging out in the stroller eating some goldfish crackers.

The puppy dog thing on his back is this very cute toddler backpack/leash. It straps on him like a backpack and the dog's tail is about 4 feet long with a loop on the end for me to hold on to. It works really well when he wants to get down and walk on his own. Samuel seemed to like the zoo, although I thought he would be more interested in the animals. He liked seeing them, but he was just as excited about things like the water fountain, or the wood chips on the ground. Goofy kid :)
