With a kid as active as Samuel, I figured it was only a matter of time before we ended up with some sort of injury requiring x-rays and a cast. He was coming down our stairs yesterday morning and he was coming down way too fast. He fell down the last part of the stairs and landed on the wooden floor. He was inconsolable. At first we thought he was just really scared and upset about what happened, but after about 20 minutes of hysterics, I called the doctor. They examined him and said things looked okay, but they wanted to do an x-ray to be sure. At this point Samuel was saying his wrist didn't really hurt that much any more (is he tough or what?) The x-ray showed his wrist was broken in 2 places. We spent the afternoon at the orthopedist having them check his wrist out further, and then put on a cast.
He has to wear the cast for a month, and if things look good at that point, he can have it taken off then. I am a little concerned because this is his right hand, which is the one he writes with, and kindergarten starts in another week here. I'm sure he will figure things out, though.
Here are some pictures of our tough kiddo:
Getting the x-ray:
Having the cast put on (he chose black as the color for his cast. I was hoping he would pick something a little cheerier like red or blue, but no. But as the practical nurse pointed out - black will help hide the dirt.)
